The Fung Scholars Singapore Chapter welcomed the new batch of scholars who are embarking on their exchange adventure in the coming semester, as well as returning scholars who have already went on exchange on 17 July 2017 at Singapore Management University.
Tzin PHOON (FS2013-14, National University of Singapore) began the session with an introduction from everyone present, and invited Jamie KO (FS2009-10, Singapore Management University) to share about the Victor and William Fung Foundation as well as the background information of the Li & Fung Group. Following which, he shared about the history of the Singapore Chapter and its beginnings. This included an overview of the past activities and future plans of the Singapore Chapter of the upcoming year.
One of the key activities in the 2017 Singapore Chapter’s calendar was the annual Fung Leadership Conference, which Tzin shared would be held in October. While acknowledging the new Fung Scholars present will not be able to attend since they will be on their respective exchange programmes, Tzin strongly encouraged them to attend the future editions after they return.
Lionel TAN (FS2014-15, National University of Singapore) shared about his exchange experience at CASS Business School, London and how he maximised his 6 months overseas. He encouraged the Fung Scholars to find a good balance between work and play, to be selective about the places they visit and travel to, and to be open about meeting new people and learning from the experiences of others. He also shared some tips that he hopes would help the Fung Scholars have a wonderful experience overseas.
To end off the event, the scholars had lunch together and networked with one another. It was interesting to hear what the new scholars have planned for their upcoming exchange semesters, such as their travel plans. The Fung scholars also took the opportunity to speak to the alumni about their career experiences thus far.
All in all, it was a fulfilling event. The Singapore Chapter wishes all the best for those embarking on their exchange experience in the upcoming semesters.
